Set aside preferred parking for disabled

Posted in Road Safety, Values, society at 9:21 am by localview

I READ with dismay about a new parking system which was recently introduced by a shopping mall that offered VIP parking spaces for certain credit cards holders.

The rich can now park their luxury cars at this special car park, which is nearer to the entrance. Not having to park their cars in the “public” car park means they can worry less about the sort of crimes reported to have happened in such places.

The rich have comfortable rides to the mall and with one swipe of a card their safety is assured. Come rain or shine, they only need to walk a short distance to the entrance of the mall.

If shopping malls have extra space near their entrance that can be converted to parking spaces, wouldn’t it be better to reserve it for the disabled, pregnant women and the elderly?

I second your view! In fact, the term “handicap” is so subjective that there should be more than 1 or 2 handicap parking space. People with arthritis are suffering in silence. What about those having a cold? Would it be better for them to park nearer to the entrance? Unfortunately, a lot of business entities are only profit oriented nowadays.

I believe, if people go the extra mild to pursue a matter when accidents happen, such managements would eventually be more sensitive towards the safety of their patrons.

I find it hard to believe that a mall would decrease the number of handy Disabled spaces just because they gave priority to high-spenders. The scheme is a brilliant inspiration! Someone had the brain plugged in and no error. As for me on my pushbike, I have priority everywhere I go. Cy Quick at mydigest.wordpress.com
